The skin is the body’s largest organ, and if you think about the meters of skin exposed to harsh elements such as cold and dry weather, you might contemplate the size of your moisturiser.
I find myself scooping heaps of moisturiser every morning and evening just to ease the tight, dry feeling of my dull, winter skin. Your face is however continuously exposed to these elements and will show signs of dehydration and ageing first.
You might want to take note of the following tips to keep your skin looking healthy, supple and glowing during the winter.
1.Treatment of the skin
Consider an intense pulsed light treatment, which will use intense heat energy to increase blood circulation and stimulate collagen production in the skin. You can treat your skin once every 3 months to this type of treatment.
The number one product to consider for re-energising and protecting your skin is an antioxidant. It usually comes in the form of a serum and is applied directly onto the skin in the morning before your moisturiser. An antioxidant will instantly brighten the skin and bring back the healthy glow.
3.Thermal spring water
Thermal spring water can easily be kept in your handbag and is a unique combination of mineral salts and trace elements which have been scientifically demonstrated for its soothing properties. It softens the skin and protects it against skin ageing. This can be used on both adults and children and can easily applied to the skin with a spritzer during the day.
4.Limit your aircon usage
Both air conditioners and indoor heating can result in extremely dry skin. It removes moisture from the air, which lowers the skin's resistance and dehydrates the skin.
5.Avoid extremely hot showers
Prolonged exposure to hot water removes the natural moisturising ability of the skin's surface cells. You will feel your skin starting to become very dry if you take hot showers regularly.
6.Use a humidifier
When the air is dry, you may have chapped lips and find that your skin becomes dry and irritated. Dry air may also aggravate eczema and other chronic skin conditions. Putting moisture back into the air could help your skin to stay moisturised.
7.Use lanolin for your lips
Found in most nipple creams – it is a fatty substance found naturally on sheep's wool. It is used as a base for ointments and works well for extremely dry and chapped lips. Try it!
